Beginners Meditation & Mindfulness

“Meditation is the process by which we go about deepening our attention and awareness, refining them, and putting them to greater practical use in our lives”
“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment and non- judgmentally.” Jon Kabat-Zinn

What Is It?

Meditation and Mindfulness is a way of paying close attention to and seeing clearly whatever is happening in our lives, moment by moment – it helps us to develop compassion for ourselves and others. It won’t stop life’s challenges and pressures, but it can help us deal with them in a calmer, clearer way that benefits ourselves and those around us. By de-stressing, calming the mind and relaxing the body it aids and supports us mentally, emotionally and physically and enhances our sense of well-being and happiness.

How It Works

We use a focus – often the breath – as an anchor for our attention, when the attention wanders – as it always will, this is fine. We notice that the attention has wandered, but it is how we respond that matters. Noticing our reaction, with kindness, compassion and non judgmentally we return our attention back to the focus – sensation of breathing. By constantly returning to the focus we allow the mind to rest and settle, to clear out the clutter of the day, becoming calmer and quieter.
